Rye Whiskey Coffee

Taste the True
Difference

Loved by coffee purists and rye whiskey enthusiasts across the country, Barrel Aged rye whiskey coffee from Cooper’s Cask Coffee is a true original. Our team produces each bag using premium single origin Ethiopian coffee beans—all of which have been dried out under the sun on raised beds to intensify the flavor within the beans.

We then kick it up a notch with our signature barrel aging process to add in the absorbed flavors of whiskey and rich oak from the barrels. What results is an intoxicating medium roast with a bright, lively taste profile from a mix of complex flavors—including peaches, strawberries, raw red honey, and a touch of dutch chocolate.

Why you should give rye (whiskey) a try

When you think of things that go great together, coffee and rye whiskey might not come up as fast as peanut butter and jelly. In this case, we’re not talking about mixing in a shot of whiskey with your morning cup of coffee. We’re talking about using the flavors of rye whiskey spirits and rich oak barrels to intensify and enhance the flavor of your coffee! If you enjoy the complex flavors of rye whiskey, you’ll love our rye whiskey barrel aged coffee.

You may have heard about barrel aging when it comes to spirits. For thousands of years, people have used this process to complement the natural flavors of spirits like bourbon, rye whiskey, rum, wine, and more. You don’t need a science degree to master the process, but you do need a deep understanding of how temperature and environment play a critical role in the process. Both will affect the way in which wood from the barrel allows vapor to pass through and oxygen to enter in—as this wood will also act as a filter to remove any unwanted flavors.

How does this relate to coffee? Because barrel aging works the same way for coffee beans! Our rye whiskey barrel aged coffee takes our premium grade 1, single origin Ethiopian dry processed coffee beans and ages them in recently emptied rye whiskey barrels.

Why Ethiopian dry processed single origin beans specifically? We’re glad you asked. Choosing the right beans is an integral part of the barrel aging process. We import single origin coffee beans from around the world, and each has their own distinct traits due to factors like soil, elevation, temperature, and humidity—which affect how they grow.

Not only that, but different regions also have different processes when it comes to harvesting and processing those beans. This gives each region’s coffee beans their own set of complexities, flavors, notes and subtleties that impact both their aroma and taste profile. Part of our job as coffee experts is to constantly tweak and test our process to find out which beans go well with rye whiskey barrel coffee specifically.

Through that process, we’ve found that single origin Ethiopian dry processed coffee beans best complement the flavors and aromas left by both the spirit and the empty rye whiskey barrel! Dry processing the beans—which involves drying out the coffee cherries under the sun on raised beds)— helps intensify the flavor of the cherry directly into the coffee bean.

We heighten those flavors even further by aging these coffee beans in rye whiskey barrels for a specific amount of time. While aging, the beans absorb the tastes and aromas of the spirit—as well as the rich oak barrel— to create a truly unique coffee drinking experience.

Once we age the single origin Ethiopian beans, we use our signature small batch roasting process to tweak and perfect the coffee’s taste profile. We also roast our coffee beans fresh-to-order for maximum taste and enjoyment! And when you take that first sip, you’ll notice a vibrant, lively taste profile with a mix of complex flavors—including peaches, strawberries, raw red honey, and a touch of dutch chocolate.

Whether you’re a coffee purist, a rye whiskey enthusiast, or just want to try something new, we know you’ll love our rye whiskey barrel aged coffee! If you’re not quite sure which coffee might fit your profile, we recommend using our product match tool to find the bag that best fits your tastes.
