Coffee is a fantastic way to wake up in the morning. When you’re feeling sluggish and sleepy, a fresh cup of joe can be the perfect method for staying awake during long commutes and back-to-back meetings. But that’s not all coffee is good for.

Coffee is a tradition that’s hundreds of years old, and at Cooper’s Cask Coffee, we don’t think that it should be relegated to a morning wake-up routine.

With the right beans and brewing methods, anyone can elevate their coffee into something special. You shouldn’t put up with your coffee, you should look forward to it. And with the help of our whiskey barrel espresso, you can.

What is espresso?

Not everyone who drinks coffee has tried espresso. It’s a completely different brewing process. The drinking process is different as well!

If you’re the kind of coffee drinker that fills a 44 oz thermos with your brew of choice, that’s totally fine with us. But espresso isn’t meant to be consumed in large quantities. It’s a smaller cup that’s meant to be savored.

Put simply, espresso is a kind of coffee that requires patience and care. It’s a different kind of coffee-drinking experience to be sure, but it’s a worthwhile departure from convention. So let’s get into more about how whiskey barrel espresso is prepared, and what kind of coffee works best with this unique method.

Cooper’s Cask Coffee

It should come as no surprise that coffee is our passion. We never saw the point in building a business around something that you’re not excited about. Well, rest assured, we’re excited about coffee. It’s what gets us up in the morning! When our founder, John Speights, started this business, he did so with the goal of making coffee better for everyone.

Plenty of other coffee companies have put too much emphasis on making coffee fast. And while there’s nothing inherently wrong with a quick cup of coffee, sometimes speed means that important things fall to the wayside. But quality is always our priority, which is why we began to age single origin coffee beans in whiskey barrels.

You’ve never had coffee like this, and our whiskey barrel espresso is something that must be tasted to believe!

Single Origin Coffee

Our beans are single origin. This means that we have a keen understanding of exactly where our coffee beans come from. You might be skeptical. After all, why is it so important that we know where our beans were grown?

You may be surprised to learn that geography is a very important factor when it comes to how a coffee bean will taste. Every aspect of a coffee bean’s growth, from the sunlight to the dirt to the water—it all affects the flavor. So it’s important that your coffee provider is aware of your beans’ origins.

And we’re not shy about where we source our beans either. Learning the location of your favorite coffee bean can help you learn more about your own preferences and tastes.

What makes a good espresso?

If you’re interested in trying an espresso, you should make sure it’s a good one. So how can one ensure that they’re making espresso correctly, and how did this time-honored coffee tradition start in the first place?

Espresso is not as old as you may think. The first espresso machine was patented in the late 19th century in order to speed up coffee-brewing times. Coffee owners were tired of lines stretching out the door and clogging up their businesses, so they devised a way to get coffee drinkers in and out of their shops as fast as possible.

In a way, the espresso is kind of like the original coffee pod. In fact, the method is quite similar as well. Espresso is not a specific type of coffee. Instead, it’s the manner in which you prepare your coffee.

First, you need finely ground coffee. We highly recommend that you do this yourself for the best possible results. Grinding your coffee at home releases fresher, more pronounced flavors you can’t get anywhere else.

Once your coffee is ground, your espresso machine can compact it into a tight puck. Then, you’ll run over the puck with a stream of hot, highly pressurized water. Once that process is complete, you’ll be left with a small cup of creamy, highly concentrated coffee.

Options for Espresso

At Cooper’s Cask Coffee, we have plenty of options for whiskey barrel espresso. Again, it’s important to remember that espresso is not a type of coffee—that’s a common misconception. Espresso is a style of coffee brewing. So although we recommend specific beans for best results, you can use any kind of bean for your espresso.

We age our beans in several different kinds of whiskey, rum, bourbon, and wine barrels, so regardless of your specific taste preferences, we probably have a bean that will meet your expectations. Peruse our coffee options and see what speaks to you!

Box Set

If you’re feeling a little overwhelmed by all of our coffee options, don’t worry. We’ve developed an espresso coffee box set so you don’t have to feel confused or unsure of where to begin.

Coffee is a vast industry filled with countless options, but we strive to make things easy for our consumers, whether they’re just drinking coffee for the first time or they’ve been drinking coffee for years. This is why we’ve opted to create an espresso box set, filled with three recommendations for your cup of espresso:

Brazil Medium Dark Roast – The first coffee included in the box set is the Brazil Medium Dark Roast. This coffee is packed with the standard, earthy coffee flavor. But you may also detect hints of other flavors, like cherry and brown sugar.

Ethiopia Bold Light Roast – Hailing from Ethiopia, our second option is a light roast filled with caffeine. When brewed in an espresso machine, the Ethiopia Bold Light Roast will give you the boost you need to get your day (or night) started on the right foot.

Kenya AA Medium Dark Roast – The last coffee in our espresso box set is the Kenya AA Medium Dark Roast. Kenya is renowned for its coffee quality, and these beans are no exception. Try this brew, and you’ll taste hints of peach and syrup.
